Strenuous Day Hike
At 4,784 feet, Brasstown Bald Mountain is the highest point in Georgia. You could pay $10 and have a van drive you to the top... but what's the fun in that?
Instead join the Outdoor Adventure Club of the South as they follow the Arkaquah trail with many fascinating views of the valleys below and Brasstown Bald itself. They'll begin their trip at the Track Rock Archaeological Area. Here you will see petroglyphs estimated to be over 1,000 years old.
They'll begin their trek to Brasstown Bald via the Arkaquah trail. It begins with a 1.7 mile climb of 1,435 feet up to Buzzard Roost Ridge. From here the trail continues climbing but at a much more tolerable rate. They'll follow the ridge 2.8 miles with amazing views into the valleys and of Brasstown Bald itself. This portion of the trail passes through rhododendron and mountain laurel thickets. You'll be above 4,000 feet most of the way. Soon you'll be at Brasstown Bald where a strenuous but short climb awaits us to the top.
